The First Step

The first step in becoming a Christian is to understand and accept that you are a sinner.

A sinner is simply someone who breaks God's law.

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
- 1 John 3:4 (KJV)

God's law is based on the Ten Commandments.

Love God =

  1. No other gods
  2. No idols
  3. No blasphemy
  4. Keep the Sabbath (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset)

Love your neighbor =

  1. Honour your father and mother
  2. No murder
  3. No adultery
  4. No stealing
  5. No lying
  6. No coveting

If you examine the Ten Commandments carefully, I'm sure you will agree that we have all broken these.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

The penalty for sin is death.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Your very blood is required.

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Fortunately Jesus, the Son of God, has paid the price, and if you believe this, you will be forgiven.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Once we become Christians we are given the Holy Spirit to help us stop sinning.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
