Satan Lied to Us

God said:

And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
- Genesis 2:16-17 (KJV)

Then Satan said:

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
- Genesis 3:4-5 (KJV)

There's quite a lot happening here, so let's break it down.

Character distortion

Satan wants you to worship him, but if you are in a loving relationship with God, he first has to destroy that relationship.

He does this by lying about who God really is.

For example, he will say things like "The God of the Old Testament is pretty cruel isn't He?".

And so on.

You will surely die

Satan said "You will not surely die". But the day Adam and Eve ate from the tree, death set into their bodies. Sure, they lived to be of an old age, but nonetheless death set into their bodies that very same day.

Sin leads to death, it's that simple.

The soul that sinneth, it shall die.
- Ezekiel 18:4 (KJV)

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Romans 6:23 (KJV)

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
- Revelation 21:8 (KJV)

Are we like God?

We are like God in the sense that we have knowledge of good and evil, but that's where the comparison stops.

We are in no way like God who is Holy, Loving and Righteous.

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
- Isaiah 46:9 (KJV)

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
- Isaiah 64:6 (KJV)

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
- Romans 3:23 (KJV)

One look into the world today confirms this. It's a right mess.

There is no one like God.

Why was the tree there?

God doesn't want robots. He wants a loving relationship with His children based on free will.

Adam and Eve had knowledge of good, and were happy.

God said "I have kept the knowledge of evil from you for your own good. However, should you choose to have knowledge of evil, you are free to do so, but you will die."

Satan said "God is keeping the knowledge of evil from you, so that you will not become like God."

The question is "Are we better off with the Commandments of God?".

For me, that's a resounding Yes!

We need God's Laws which are for the good of all, e.g. Love God, and Love our neighbor.

But God wants you to decide that for yourself.

You choose!

Conclusion

I hope that you can see that Satan lied to us.

Look at the world, and the state it is in. It's just disgusting.

When we receive our spiritual bodies, the knowledge of evil will be gone.

Wouldn't that be best for all of us?
