Fear God, and Keep His Commandments

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
- Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)

I think people don't always realize how big a favor God is actually doing us.

God clearly hates sin, and has even put the death penalty on it.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Romans 6:23 (KJV)

But, at the same time, God hasn't given up on us yet either, otherwise we'd all be in a lake of fire.

I think God wants us to fear Him, because He is the one who will ultimately judge us.

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Matthew 10:28 (KJV)

I think it's like saying "pay attention to what I say, because it's important".

No one is to relax and say "I'm doing well" (boasting), because we all fall short of the glory of God.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
- Romans 3:23 (KJV)

Our righteousness is like a filthy rag.

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
- Isaiah 64:6 (KJV)

Fear of God is a healthy thing.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
- Proverbs 9:10 (KJV)

God is not to be mocked.

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
- Galatians 6:7 (KJV)

And we ought to work out our salvation with fear and trembling.

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
- Philippians 2:12-13 (KJV)

Then, when we keep the commandments of God, we have nothing to fear.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
- 1 John 4:18 (KJV)

And as we humble ourselves before God, we can come to God in times of need.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
- Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
