The Knowledge of Evil

This article is about the possible future role of the Holy Spirit.

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
- Ezekiel 36:26-27 (KJV)

When God created Adam and Eve, He only gave them knowledge of good (and not of evil).

God would have said something like: "I'm filtering out everything that would break My Law (the Ten Commandments). You have free will, but if you gain the knowledge of evil you will surely die".

The tree of knowledge of good and evil represents choice (free will). God is not looking for robots that 'love' Him, but for people that voluntarily choose to love God, and keep His commandments.

If ye love me, keep my commandments.
- John 14:15 (KJV)

When Adam and Eve ate from the tree, they gained the knowledge of evil, and started acting on it.

They became sinners (lawbreakers).

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Romans 6:23 (KJV)

Satan said that we would be like God knowing good and evil.

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
- Genesis 3:5 (KJV)

This is only partially true however.

We lack the righteousness of God, and have no clear "dividing line" between good and evil like God does.

Our "righteousness" is all over the place, and it's why this place is such a mess.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
- Romans 3:23 (KJV)

God is trying to restore us back to how Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden. That's the plan of salvation.

Knowledge of good only.

The thought to kill/steal/etc will simply no longer come to mind.

No more sin.
